The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has conducted a series of drills to mark China’s Army Day in Shanxi Province.

More than 3,000 personnel along with anti-aircraft machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles and two helicopters participated in the manoeuvres, which included air raid drills and a series of rescue operations in the wake of an earthquake.

PLA Shanxi Provincial Military Area Command commander Liu Yunhai said the drills aimed to test the ability and response of military and paramilitary units when performing military and non-war affairs.

The air raid exercises involved simulated warfare and usage of electromagnetic monitoring devices, GPS and internet-based technologies for communication, according to Xinhua News Agency.
