BAE Systems has been awarded a contract modification to provide 45 M88A2 heavy equipment recovery combat utility evacuation system (HERCULES) vehicles and associated parts to the US Army.

Under the $108.4m contract modification, the company will provide 29 vehicles to the US Army and 16 vehicles to the US Marine Corps.

Hercules is used to recovering 70t combat vehicles including the M1A1, M1A2, Leopard, bridging systems and other medium-weight vehicles.

The M88A2 also provides additional armour protection and increased engine horsepower, towing muscle, lifting strength and winching power to the soldiers.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Pennsylvania and South Carolina, US, with deliveries to commence in April 2013 and continue until December 2013.
