The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is selling equipment worth millions of pounds at bargain prices to make up for a £36bn budget deficit.

The military equipment includes 14 Gazelle helicopters worth £5m, which are expected to fetch £100,000, and armoured VIP Jaguars costing up to £200,000.

The MoD’s Defence Equipment and Sales website has also put up Land Rovers, motorbikes and even SAS troops combat jackets for sale along with expensive watches.

The website also offered dump trucks, aircraft loading equipment and flight simulators for training Lynx helicopter pilots, as well as office furniture and tools.

A MoD spokesman said the Disposal Services Authority, part of Defence Equipment and Support, had secured £84m from sales last year.

“We are committed to delivering the best possible return for the taxpayer when disposing of surplus equipment,” Said the spokesperson.
