The Australian Department of Defence has placed orders worth $235m with Harris for the purchase of Falcon tactical radio systems in a bid to modernise its armed forces’ communications system.

Under the contract, the company will mainly supply the Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) multi-band, multi-mode handheld tactical radios featuring line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight communications.

Additional delivery includes the Falcon II AN/PRC-150(C) manpack, Type-1 certified HF radios along with support for delivery, installation and training for the radios.

The Falcon III AN/PRC-152 single-channel multiband, multi-mission handheld radio designed to provide soldier with secure, real-time information and communication at all points of need during coordination, combat, and crisis.

The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) software communications architecture-certified radio operates in 30-512 MHz frequency range and features robust satellite tactical communications capability with advanced SATCOMS waveforms.

The Falcon II AN/PRC-150(C) provides reliable, long-range, high-frequency (HF), secure voice and data communication to the soldiers at the tactical edge of the battlefield in the 1.6-60 MHz frequency range.

The radio features Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) and high performance Third Generation ALE (3G) to provide superior linking and error-free data performance and also ensure consistent, secure communications even during jamming.

The order is part of Australia Defence Forces (ADF) Joint Project 2072 tactical radio modernisation programme for its armed forces and will provide service personnel with secure Type-1 tactical voice and data communications.

The radio is already in use with all branches of the US Department of Defense (DoD), Nato and other allied forces worldwide.
