The South Korean Army has selected Aura Systems for the delivery of additional vehicle-integrated primary electrical resource (VIPER) mobile power systems as part of a military programme.

Worth $63m, the programme involves the supply of a total of 7,000 systems over a seven year period, which will be supplied in batches of 1,000 systems each year, in addition to a near-term delivery of 50 systems to the army.

The VIPER system being delivered under the contract is a 10kW solution that will be modified to the standard configuration in a period of four to five months.

Aura CEO Melvin Gagerman said that the solution had been integrated into numerous South Korean military programmes and the company was expecting orders for additional programmes.

The latest award, combined with previous programmes, brings the total number of VIPER systems ordered by the South Korean military to more than 9,100.

An additional 5,000 VIPER units are currently considered for use in other military programmes expected to be announced over the next six months.

A ruggedised version of the AuraGen axial flux induction generator, the VIPER is an axially symmetric mobile power generator and vehicles power management system, which uses rotating energy from an engine to deliver both AC and DC power on location for military applications.

Designed for integration into a mobile radar system, the air-drop certified VIPER is capable of operating under extreme conditions ranging from -40°F to 125°F, featuring 30-minute submersible capacity.

To date, company has delivered approximately 500 systems to the South Korean military.
