CV9030 combat vehicleBAE Systems has awarded a contract to Saab for the delivery of new automotive electronics and upgrades of the existing systems on the Norwegian Army’s CV9030N infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).

The Skr131m ($18.76m) order forms a subcontract to the original contract awarded to BAE by the Army to implement an upgrade programme on its fleet of 144 CV9030N vehicles in June 2012.

Under the terms of contract, Saab will supply universal tank and anti-aircraft sight (UTAAS), new sight and fire control system, virtual image displays (VIDs), computer network and operator displays, as well as digital video systems.

Saab Support and Services business area head Lars-Erik Wige said: "Saab is providing the CV90 vehicle with the latest technology and helping to enhance and improve protection for troops in the field."

The UTAAS is a modular, versatile sight and fire-control system designed to provide tanks and combat vehicles with high hit probability against all ground based targets, helicopters and high speed aircraft.

Capable of integration with a variety of third generation thermal imagers for night and all-weather missions, the system’s modular architecture offers a range of performance options and upgrading possibilities to the user, without the need for re-alignment.

Featuring a small OLED display and high-performance magnifying optics, the VID is a compact and rugged multi-purpose display developed for use by the combat vehicles, aircraft, helicopters and naval vessels that are using video distribution systems (VDS) or direct connection to one sensor.

Manufacturing work under the contract will be carried out in Sweden, with deliveries scheduled to start from August and run for the next two years.

Developed by BAE Systems Land Systems Hägglunds, the CV9030N IFV is an export version of the CV90 combat vehicle, featuring a 30mm Bushmaster II autocannon, additional mine protection and rear-view cameras and enhanced manoeuvrability.
