BAE Systems has awarded a contract to FLIR Systems for the supply of its thermal imaging systems, which will be installed on the Norwegian Army’s fleet of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
The $11m order forms part of the original $750m (£500m) contract secured by BAE in June for the supply of 144 CV90s in different configurations, as well as from upgrading the army’s current inventory of 103 CV9030 vehicles.

Under the terms of the contract, the company will supply its ThermoSight LIRC sighting systems along with SA90 and DV55 driver vision/situational awareness (DV/SA) thermal imaging systems to BAE.
FLIR president and CEO Earl Lewis said: "This order demonstrates the value of our technology in driver vision and sighting enhancement."
Featuring a 640×480 LWIR QWIP detector and STACE image processer, the ThermoSight LIRC is a compact, rugged thermal imager engineered to provide the tracked or wheeled armoured vehicle crew with greater situational awareness during combat operations.
With simple integration into vehicles and a range of defence equipment, the system maintains constant imagery without continuous user input, and also offers long-range detection capability in any climatic conditions.

By GlobalDataThe SA90 sensors are designed for installation in either single or multiple units, anywhere on any military vehicle, to provide wider real time video imagery of the surroundings.
According to the company, both ThermoSight LIRC and DV/SA systems are combat proven imagers, featuring real-time image enhancement and a best-in-class input reaction time.
Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to start in 2014.
The CV9030N IFV, developed by BAE Systems Land Systems Hägglunds, is an export version of the CV90 combat vehicle, featuring a 30mm Bushmaster II autocannon, additional mine protection and rear-view cameras and enhanced manoeuvrability.
