US Army Garrison Wiesbaden has received two robots to help in the disinfection of the air and building surfaces with ultraviolet light.
The Mission Command Center (MCC) and fitness centre staff were trained to get familiarised with operating the robots.

A tablet device is used to control the robots and move them around the room.
The army noted that the robots will not replace the current Covid-19 protocols and the processes of cleaning and sanitising using disinfectant solutions.
US Army Europe and Africa has implemented a layered methodology to ensure that personnel are protected from the novel coronavirus, according to US Army Europe and Africa’s Mission Support Element director David Fulton.
Staff are directed to follow the protocols, with the first step being hand washing.

By GlobalDataSix troughs are rented at the MCC, Wiesbaden Army Health Clinic, Exchange, Clay shoppette, Commissary and the Wiesbaden Army Lodge, for which they are testing small water heaters.
They have also installed signage to direct people on the process.
People then undergo a temperature check using a thermal imaging camera before they enter the MCC.
They are also directed to wear masks and follow social distancing.
Fulton added that all these measures are supplementary to the sanitisation of air and surfaces, which is aided by the Covid-19-secure robot.
The robot sucks in the air, which is passed through a light that sanitises any bacteria and viruses.
Fulton added: “This building is a very safe place to work, and that just improves our readiness.
“We still have a good number of folks who are working remotely, and they are able to be effective at doing that, and because they are working remotely, we are able to spread out more.
“All these layers allow people who need to be here in person to do their work to come in without fear of getting sick or bringing that home to their family.”
