ITT Exelis has been selected by the US Army Sustainment Command (ACC) as one of the prime contractors to compete for the multibillion dollar emerging enhanced army global logistics enterprise (EAGLE) programme contract.

The company will now submit bids for the multiple-award contract, which covers the army’s future logistics requirements, such as maintenance operations, support and transportation services.

Valued at a potential $23.5bn for all awardees, the EAGLE contract includes a five-year performance period and is scheduled to replace the army’s existing field and installations readiness support team (FIRST) contract.

Task order requests under the contract are likely to be issued by the army from mid-October, and selected companies will perform work as part of basic ordering agreements.

ITT Exelis Mission Systems division president Ken Hunzeker said the company was well prepared for EAGLE work due to its previous work with the FIRST programme.

The EAGLE programme is structured through a basic ordering agreement, which is a written understanding for a traditional contract between the government and selected contractors.

Sustainment services will be used by the army’s directorate of logistics organisations and other groups within the branch for transportation, refurbishment and maintenance of equipment in the field, with an aim to keep it combat-ready.

Services will also enable the army to provide pre-deployment training on equipment to troops, as well as monitoring kit life to ensure serviceability and availability.

Work under the contract is scheduled to be carried out at multiple army installations across the US.
