Globecomm Systems and Harris have been selected as prime contractors for the US Army Program Executive Office – Command, Control and Communications – Tactical’s (PEO-C3T) multi-billion global tactical advanced communications systems (GTACS) programme.

Valued at an estimated $10bn for all 20 awardees, the five-year, multiple award, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) GTACS contract covers procurement of a broad spectrum of tactical communications products, systems and engineering services by both defence and civilian federal agencies.

Other GTACS awardees include CACI Technologies, D & S Consultants, DRS Technical Services, Envistacom, General Dynamics One Source, ITT/ Exelis, L-3 Services, Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems, Northrop Grumman Systems, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins and Tactical Communication Systems.

Globecomm received task orders for both the unrestricted and small business restricted suite of contracts, which are having requirements of $4.5m and less.

Under the contract, Harris will bid for deliveries of advanced solutions, including tactical satellite communications and handheld joint tactical radio system (JTRS)-compliant radios to the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.

Globecomm Systems chief executive officer and chairman David Hershberg said the company was pleased at being selected to compete for future deliveries of mission-critical turnkey communications systems and equipment to the troops.
