Tarian was short-listed with two other solutions during the comprehensive testing programme, which also featured live-firing and vehicle field trials.

AmSafe Bridport sales and marketing director Neal McKeever said: "This contract win demonstrates that Tarian is the RPG protection technology of choice to meet armed forces requirements for effective RPG protection that is lightweight, operationally effective and affordable."

Manufactured in close collaboration with the MoD, the Tarian is a lightweight and flexible RPG armour system designed to safeguard military vehicles, such as high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV) against grenade attacks in the battlefield.

"This contract win demonstrates that Tarian is the RPG protection technology of choice to meet armed forces requirements for effective RPG protection that is lightweight, operationally effective and affordable."

Weighing 0.8kg, the system is around 98% lighter and offers enhanced protection performance compared with the legacy heavy, metal bar armour RPG protection systems, enhancing vehicle performance, reliability, besides reducing maintenance downtime and cost.

The system features a robust textile net developed from high-tenacity fibres that attach to vehicles using innovative flexible mounts, enabling Tarian to resist harsh vehicle operating conditions without sustaining damage.

Extensively tested by the MoD and US, Tarian has been fitted to the UK Army’s heavy equipment transporters (HET) in Afghanistan since May 2009, and also as QuickShield bar armour repair kits to replace damaged bar armour since April 2011.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to complete by the end of 2013.
