ITT Exelis has secured a direct commercial contract for delivery of additional single channel ground and airborne radio systems (SINCGARS) and associated equipment to the armed forces of an undisclosed international customer.

Under the $4.3m contract, the company will supply unspecified units of its RT-1702 SINCGARS in the VRC-90 long range radio system and the VRC-92 dual long range radio system configurations.

Additional responsibility include provision of the installation kits and spare parts to support both systems.

Exelis RT-1702 SINCGARS is an advanced software upgradeable radio, designed to provide secure very high-frequency (VHF) voice and internet protocol (IP) data communications capabilities to tactical units in both mounted and dismounted configurations in the 30MHz-88MHz frequency range.

When combined with available embedded 12 channel GPS receiver option, the software programmable radio also enables the soldier to effectively share GPS data with other tactical systems in the battlefield.

Equipped with an automatic retransmission capabilities, the AN/VRC-92 is a vehicle-mounted, dual-radio configuration radio featuring two long-range, solid-state, securable transceivers for very high frequency-frequency modulated (VHF-FM) tactical operations.

More than 600,000 SINCGARS systems have been delivered to date by the company to the US military and its 30 allies, making it the most widely fielded combat networking radio in the world.

The delivery schedule has not been made public.
