The Australian Government has granted funds of approximately $5m to local businesses to support the growth of the country’s defence industry capability.

A total of 11 small-sized to medium-sized companies in Australia are supported under the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Grants programme.

The companies contributing to the needs of the defence industry include Frontline Manufacturing, SRC Australia, Infinite Engineering and Cyborg Dynamics Engineering.

Other companies that are awarded the grant include Jehbco Manufacturing, Aero Spec Engineering, RUAG Australia, The Smart Think Australia, Aquaterro Advanced Product Supplies, Simbiant and Rojone.

Australia Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said: “These successful grant recipients are being supported to deliver a number of quality projects that will enhance Australian defence industry’s sovereign capabilities, aligned with Defence’s Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities.

“Queensland-based Cyborg Dynamics Engineering is developing a robotic unmanned ground vehicle. Their grant funding will be used to fund the project’s design, materials, equipment and testing.

“Another recipient, New South Wales-based company Rojone is establishing a fibre optic cable assembly capability, connecting vital systems to ensure ADF personnel have access to the information they require to perform their duties.”

The 2009 Priority Industry Capabilities will be replaced by the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities programme.

Under the grants programme initiative, the Australian Government continues to support and fund eligible Australian businesses.

Funds granted have been directed to build the companies’ capacity and resilience.

They will help in buying, constructing, installing or commissioning of capital equipment, including associated training required for their workforce.

Grant applications can be submitted through the Centre for Defence Industry Capability website.
