New Jersey National Guard has established a field medical station at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus in response to the growing Covid-19 crisis in the country.

The field medical station is expected to mitigate pressure from the local hospitals treating Covid-19 patients. Two additional medical stations at Edison and Atlantic City are set to open soon.

New Jersey Army National Guard physical assistant and Task Force Secaucus commander Army Colonel Stephen McKenzie said: “We hit the ground and started to work with the Department of Health, who have just done an amazing job working with the state police in getting this facility built and ready for patients.

“We’re going to help establish the first pods of 25 beds of patients to actually start operating in this facility.”

Overall, the three-field medical stations will have a capacity of at least 1,000 beds. The Edison facility at the New Jersey Convention Center will have 500 beds while the remaining two will be equipped to accommodate around 250 patients.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said: “We will need not only the capacity, but the great flexibility these sites will afford our bricks-and-mortar hospitals in the coming weeks.”
