Techno-Sciences has been awarded a contract from to provide software integration and maintenance support for the US Army’s Cospas-Sarsat systems.

Awarded following a competitive open bidding process, the contract covers provision of rescue coordination center (RCC) software and maintenance support services for the Cospas-Sarsat systems in Qatar and Afghanistan.

Under the contract, the company will upgrade and maintain the existing Cospas-Sarsat systems, including the low earth orbiting local user terminals (LEOLUT), geo-stationary orbit local user terminal (GEOLUT), medium earth orbit local user terminal (MEOLUT), and mission control centre (MCC), besides providing new installations for RCCNET clients.

The RCCNET software and support services will deliver detection and notification support for the Army’s 406MHz personal locator beacon (PLB) programme.

Tsi chief executive officer Jean-Luc Abaziou said the company will provide the highest level of support to the army for sustainment of the critical systems.

Specifically, the RCCNET is scheduled to be used by the army to coordinate search and rescue missions for a population of over 200,000 PLBs and other 406MHz devices.

The RCCNET is claimed to be the world’s most advanced RCC software solution designed to provide search planning, analysis, real-time data sharing and management, 3-D mapping with data integration, and accounting tools in a client-server package with built-in redundancy, high reliability and ease of use.

The contract’s performance period and additional details remain undisclosed.

Comprising a ground segment and a space segment, the Cospas-Sarsat is a satellite-based search and rescue (SAR) distress alert detection and information distribution system, and is used for detection and location of emergency beacons activated by aircraft, ships and hikers in distress.
