Forces from the US Army Central and Qatari Emiri Land Forces have concluded the annual command post exercise Eastern Action.

This year’s iteration included a field training exercise for the first time in addition to the regular command post exercise.

Eastern Action involved troops from the 2nd Battalion, 198th Armor Regiment, 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Spartan, and Qatari Emiri Land Forces.

US Army Indiana National Guard 38th Infantry Division deputy commanding general brigadier general Steven King said: “The United States partnership with the Qatari Emiri Land Forces is an important component of deterring aggression from regional adversaries.

“The ability to engage with our partners in exercises like Eastern Action is a key component to ensuring interoperability and standing strong together in support of regional security.”

Eastern Action is aimed at increasing interoperability between the US and Qatari military forces.

The exercise includes defensive command and control, and offensive drills with situational training exercise lanes.

It allows mechanised infantry troops of Qatar and the US to train together.

King added: “Working side-by-side presents a unique opportunity to learn from our Qatari Emiri Land Forces partners as we share our tactics, techniques and procedures with them. The interaction makes for a rich learning environment.”

The exercise began on 4 November with an opening ceremony and helped the forces to improve operational readiness.
