The multiple award, indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract has a five-year base performance period and five one-year options, with a maximum ceiling value of $4bn for all seven awardees.
Under the contract, the Alion team will compete for individual task orders to perform research and development, hardware and software technology development, and test and evaluation across the CWMD landscape.
The results are expected to help DTRA to find and deploy solutions to counter the proliferation of, and threat posed by potential weapons of mass destruction (WMD) devices, which are a continuing concern to the US and its allies worldwide.
Alion senior vice-president and Distributed Simulation Group manager Terri Spoonhour said the contract will enable the company to expand on its previous ten years of support to DTRA in nuclear detection, modelling and simulation, exercise support and systems analysis.

Headquartered at Fort Belvoir in Virginia, US, the DTRA is the Department of Defense’s (DoD) official combat support agency for countering WMD across the entire spectrum of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive threats.
