The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has taken delivery of seven next-generation digital video exploitation (D-VEX) systems from General Dynamics (GD) Mediaware.
Designed to extend the operational efficiencies of the 20th Surveillance and Target Acquisition (20STA) Regiment Royal Australian Artillery, the man-portable version of the D-VEX system also enhances the reporting capabilities of the forward-deployed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) specialist team.

The systems have been deployed with the Australian Army’s Shadow 200 tactical unmanned aerial systems (TUAS), since December 2012, to improve the distribution of actionable intelligence amongst Australian soldiers and coalition forces in Afghanistan.
General Dynamics Mediaware chief technology officer Kevin Moore said: "We continue to take what we learn from our close partnership with the ADF to enhance and refine the techniques and tools that enable warfighters to leverage ISR motion imagery for tactical advantage.
"The laptop-based D-VEX system is easy to use and has low lifecycle costs, providing the ADF with the ability to record and disseminate reports to the local ground command in real-time, saving valuable time and resources."
Developed using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, the D-VEX is a portable video exploitation system designed to help troops in capturing and managing full motion video (FMV) from airborne ISR platforms on the battlefield.

By GlobalDataIn addition to enabling the operators to export all recorded metadata to enterprise FMV systems, D-VEX also allows for detailed forensic analysis due to its comprehensive search and mark-up capabilities.
Fully compliant with open defence standards, including the STANAG 4609 and NGA motion imagery standards profiles (MISP), the system is also capable of operating with commercially available compact mobile hardware, including laptops.
The system is expected to be displayed by the company at the upcoming Singapore Airshow, which will be held from 11 to 16 February, at Changi Exhibition Centre in Singapore.
