Fort Knox

Network communications provider Windstream has received a contract from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to supply and install upgraded fibre networks at two US military bases.

The $3m contract is for fibre connections scheduled to be installed at Fort Knox in Louisville, Kentucky, and Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas; offering four times more bandwidth than their current network.

The upgraded fibre networks will enable the bases to communicate more efficiently and effectively during day-to-day tasks and mission-critical operations, with a faster, more reliable network.

Windstream government solutions vice-president and general manager Mike Magliato said: "The Department of Defense realises the benefits of more cost-effective network access."

The fibres will enable the bases to expand connectivity to additional military bases, namely Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, Kelly Field Annex in Texas, Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, to create an intra-agency network.
