Airbus has received a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to run its Land Systems Reference Centre (LSRC) at Blandford Camp in Dorset.

LSRC is a land command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) test centre that was established in 2000.

The facility provides the MoD with a through life ‘Systems of Systems’ test and reference service for deployable land environment communications and information systems (CIS).

Under the £22m five-year contract, Airbus will manage test and reference services to ‘support the delivery and release of C4ISR capability for deployed operations’ worldwide.

In a statement, Airbus said: “Airbus offers the UK MoD a seamless transition and delivery of a comprehensive, consistent and coherent service model for the LSRC, delivering test and reference capability to support development, integration, approval and de-risking of C4ISR systems and services.

“Airbus aims to make the LSRC the UK MoD’s centre of excellence for advice and test, ensuring that MoD networks can accommodate new applications, hardware and services.”

The centre will serve as the testing facility for programmes such as Morpheus, which is a £3.2bn programme that aims to deliver a next-generation tactical communications system for the British Armed Forces.

The LSRC has the capability to provide support and specialist advice for deployed and base information and communication technology (ICT) capabilities over the entire lifecycle.

Furthermore, the facility can test applications and application upgrades on reference systems.

This is intended to understand their impact on other applications and the network.

Testing will allow the MoD and industry to minimise risks associated with the development, integration, deployment and upgrade of CIS.

Previously, the MoD awarded a five-year contract to Steria to run the LSRC in 2013.
