Raytheon has been awarded a $655m contract for new-production fire units of the combat-proven Patriot air and missile defence system for Kuwait Armed Forces.
The company will supply new Patriot fire units with increased computing power and radar processing efficiency, improved man-machine interface and reduced life-cycle costs.

The foreign military sale (FMS) contract was awarded by the US Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), located at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, US.
These new units are an addition to the Patriot fire units currently used by Kuwait to counter current and evolving threats.
Raytheon integrated defence systems integrated air and missile defence business vice-president Ralph Acaba said: “We continue to see an increased interest in and demand for the advanced Patriot as the system is called to duty in hot spots around the world.
“Kuwait is part of Patriot’s current family of 12 nations that have already selected Patriot as the cornerstone of their air and missile defense strategy.

Jointly manufactured by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, the MIM-104 Patriot is a long-range, all-altitude, all-weather air defence system designed to protect soldiers against advanced threats such as aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the battlefield.
The system is also operational with the forces in Egypt, Germany, Greece, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Korea, Taiwan and the UAE, and the US.
Work under the contract will be carried out at Raytheon’s Integrated Air Defense Center, Andover, Massachusetts, US, supported by a global team of Patriot system suppliers, while delivery schedule remains undisclosed.
