The UK Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has announced the details of the next roulement units scheduled to be deployed in June as part of Operation Herrick XVIII in Afghanistan.
Approximately half of the deploying units will come under the command of a UK one-star within the US Marine Corps commanded headquarters, while the remainder will be sent to other areas within Camp Bastion and in Kandahar and Kabul.

In addition, members of the reserve forces will continue their deployment to Afghanistan as part of the UK’s integrated force.
This represents the final phase of Operation Herrick, as UK Armed Forces are set to end their combat operations by 31 December 2014.
Units will include The Queen’s Royal Hussars, Royal Artillery regiments, Royal Engineers, Signal Regiments, The Royal Logistic Corps, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Royal Military Police, and the Royal Air Force squadrons.
As well as reservists, approximately 762 individuals from each of the three services will be sent, including 67 navy personnel, 320 army personnel and 375 from the air force.

The number of UK military personnel in Helmand has reduced from a peak of more than 10,000 to just under half, as the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have taken the lead for security across the country.
The role for the task force has now changed from combat operations to advising and supporting the Afghan Security Forces.
