AM General’s joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) prototype has successfully completed engineering manufacturing and development (EMD) off-road testing at an undisclosed location.

The company is providing the blast-resistant off-road vehicle (BRV-O) for the US Department of Defense’s (DoD) programme, which seeks to replace the US Army and Marine Corps’ ageing high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV) fleet.

AM General Business Development and Programme Management vice-president Chris Vanslager said: "As the most experienced light tactical vehicle company in the world, having designed, tested, built and fielded more than 1.5 million vehicles, we are very pleased with BRV-O’s performance to date, and EMD testing was very much in line with our projections.

"The BRV-O is designed to meet or exceed the EMD phase evaluation criteria in terms of protection, performance, payload, transportability, reliability and affordability."

"We look forward to getting this modern and innovative vehicle that provides unmatched situational awareness, protection, performance and payload at an affordable price, into the hands of our customers as soon as possible."

AM General successfully completed all EMD phase milestones, including the design understanding review and manufacturing readiness assessment, prior to delivering 22 BRV-Os to the US Government for testing in August 2013.

Developed in two versions, the BRV-O is designed to meet or exceed the EMD phase evaluation criteria for protection, performance, payload, transportability, reliability and affordability.
