North Korean strategic forces have conducted a rocket-firing drill into the East Sea, as South Korea prepares for an upcoming annual exercise with the US.
The North’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a statement that the exercise was guided by North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un, on Saturday.

"He examined a firing plan mapped out in consideration of the present location of the US imperialist aggressor forces’ bases in South Korea, and under the simulated conditions of the battle to strike and destroy them before guiding the drill," the statement said, without disclosing the location.
Jong-Un told the news agency that the US has not changed its policy towards North Korea, and warned ‘whoever dares challenge’ the country is bound to meet ‘a final ruin’.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Pyongyang might have launched a Scud-type short-range missile, which has an estimated range of 500km, from Jangsan Cape on its western coastal region.
North Korea is continuing missile launches into the East Sea despite widespread condemnation by the international community. UN Security Council resolutions prohibit the country from conducting any ballistic missile technology launches.

Approximately 28,500 US soldiers are currently deployed in South Korea to combat North Korean aggression.
The US and South Korean militaries are scheduled to conduct Ulchi-Freedom Guardian (UFG) next month to evaluate and enhance their joint defence readiness.
