US-based DCS Corporation has been contracted to support the Department of Defense’s (DOD) software system Joint Warning and Reporting Network (JWARN) programme.

JWARN is designed to provide users with a warning and reporting capability for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) and toxic industrial material incidents.

It is designed to collect, analyse, identify, locate, and report information on nuclear, biological, or chemical (NBC) activity and threats.

The information gathered from sensors in the field is disseminated to decision-makers throughout the command.

Under the $50.2m prime contract, the company will provide support services for JWARN that includes software development, research and development, integration, testing, post-deployment software, and sustainment.

“JWARN provides DoD components and joint headquarter elements with a decision support tool to support force protection activities and decision making.”

The company is required to provide technical development of the JWARN programme for the Joint Program Manager Information Systems (JPM IS) in San Diego, California, US, for a period of five years.

In a statement, DCS said: “JWARN is used to support crisis action and deliberate planning, as well as steady-state planning to mitigate the impact of weapons of mass destruction or TIM releases.

“By providing shared situational awareness and understanding of the location of identified CBRN hazards in the battlespace, JWARN provides DoD components and joint headquarter elements with a decision support tool to support force protection activities and decision making.”

Since 2003, the company has been serving as a subcontractor, supporting the JWARN programme and providing CBRN Messaging support.

DCS is planning to increase its presence in San Diego with this new contract. Additionally, it will set up an office in Orlando, Florida, US.
