Saab has secured a contract to supply its latest advanced softkill solution to an undisclosed customer.
Under the terms of the SEK48m ($6.7m) contract, the company will supply its new land electronic defence systems-50 (LEDS-50) Mk2.

The agreement represents an important breakthrough for the company in the land self-protection systems market, as it is the launch order for its latest vehicle self-protection solution.
Manufactured by Saab’s South African subsidiary, LEDS-50 Mk2 provides additional protection to the vehicle and crew by detecting the presence of latest-generation laser threats and automatically deploying countermeasures to avoid the vehicle being hit by the threat.
The softkill solution provides 360° azimuth coverage of a platform by using four LWS-310 sensors, as reported IMR DefenseNews Show Reporter.
In addition, the system is capable of providing full hemispherical coverage and anti-reflection capability, with the addition of a LWS-500 top attack and anti-reflection sensor.

By GlobalDataDisplayed at Defexpo 2014 in India earlier this year, the solution can also be scaled down to a single sensor solution for low-cost applications against basic-range finder and designator threats.
The development and production under the contract is scheduled to be carried out at Saab Grintek Defence’s facility in Centurion, South Africa. Additional details, including the number of units ordered and their delivery schedule, remain undisclosed.
Saab land self-protection solutions’ existing customers include the Royal Netherlands Army, which has fitted the Saab laser-warning system to their CV90/35 armoured infantry fighting vehicle fleet as part of an integral survivability suite.
