Thales has been awarded a contract to supply a military satellite communications (SATCOM) system to the Qatar Armed Forces.
Under the contract, the company will supply the systems needed to transmit and receive communications through satellites and process data on the ground.

In addition, Thales will deliver a network operations centre that will help the Qatari armed forces plan and manage the complete system.
The value of the contract remains undisclosed.
Qatar Defence Affairs Minister technology assistant Abdulaziz Falah Al-Dosari said: "We are today selecting Thales after a rigorous procurement process and over a year of technical evaluation."
Thales chairman and chief executive officer Jean-Bernard Lévy said: "This is a big success, which comes at the end of a long bid process.

The ground segment of the agreement is expected to provide Qatari ground and naval forces with a long-range communications capability to enhance national security and protect vital interests.
Built around Thales’ high-performance System 21 technology, the military SATCOM system is designed to provide secure, high-data-rate transmissions.
The system, which will be integrated with existing communications systems, including combat radios and fixed networks, has also been selected by several Nato countries.
SATCOM systems represent a significant component of voice and data communications capability in the theatre of operations.
The solution is scheduled to be delivered on a turnkey basis, with integrated teams created to ensure the transfer of skills from the company to the customer.
