A trilateral information sharing arrangement has been signed by the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Korea, the Japanese Defence Ministry and the US Department of Defense (DoD).
The arrangement will allow sharing of information related to nuclear and missile threats posed by North Korea, although it will not impose any new legal obligations on the signatories.

A framework will be created that will allow the defence authorities of the US, South Korea, and Japan to voluntarily share classified information.
The US DoD will act as the hub for any shared information.
In addition to enhancing the security of the three countries, the agreement will allow for a more effective response to future provocations and during contingencies.
In a separate development, the US DoD and the Japanese Defence Ministry have announced the deployment of a second army navy / transportable radar surveillance (AN / TPY-2) radar to Kyogamisaki.

By GlobalDataThe Kyogamisaki communications site (KCS) radar will enhance sensor coverage for ballistic missile defence of Japan and the US homeland, and will also augment the existing radar located at Shariki in northern Japan.
Constructed in Japan, the AN / TPY-2 radar transportable system has been fielded and tested by the US DoD. It serves as a highly capable sensor for both homeland and regional missile defence, and will be used by the US Pacific Command and US Northern Command.
Additional AN / TPY-2 forward-based radars are located in Turkey and the Middle East.
