The US Army has awarded Saab a contract to supply laser-based training system for its armoured combat vehicles.
Valued at $32m, the deal represents the fourth and fifth options of a multi-year, indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract signed in 2012.

If all options are exercised over a period of five years, the value of the combat vehicle tactical engagement simulation system (CVTESS) contract will be $90m.
The original contract required Saab to deliver the trainers for initial use on all variants of the Army’s M1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) and M2 Bradley Tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicles (BFVs).
Saab Defense and Security USA Training and Simulation division general manager Cyndi Turner said: "Saab’s CVTESS is on the cutting edge of force-on-force training technology.
"With more than 3,000 vehicle systems fielded to the US Army, we are proud to continue supplying our military with a proven solution for their training needs."

By GlobalDataThe CVTESS is a laser and radio frequency-based system used to simulate battlefield conditions for armoured vehicles, light-skinned vehicles, bunkers, and fixed targets.
The easy-to-install units will replace the majority of Saab-built gunner training simulators supplied to the US Army in 1988 for the Abrams MBTs and Bradley vehicles.
