Harris Corporation has secured a position on the $12.7bn, multi-award contract to provide handheld, manpack and small form-fit (HMS) radios to the US Army.
Under the terms of the five-year contract, the company will supply Harris AN/PRC-158 multichannel radio for dismounted and mounted manpack configurations.

The contract aims to provide approximately 65,000 HMS radios to the army as part of its manpack radio modernisation programme.
Harris Communication Systems Tactical Communications president Brendan O’Connell said: "The HMS manpack award is a major step forward for the US Army’s tactical radio modernisation programme, and brings essential battlefield networking and communications capabilities to the warfighter.
"The award also allows Harris to now compete at all echelons of the army tactical communications architecture, from dismounted handheld radios through vehicular-based radio platforms."
Work under the contract is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of Harris’s fiscal 2017.

By GlobalDataThe Harris AN/PRC-158 radio features two-channel architecture and integrated cross-banding.
It also incorporates soldier radio waveform (SRW), single-channel ground and airborne radio system (SINCGARS), and mobile user objective system (MUOS) satellite communication waveforms, while maintaining backward interoperability with legacy waveforms.
General Dynamics (GD) and Rockwell Collin also secured a position on the contract.
