Battelle has secured a five-year contract to provide survival expertise and equipment to the US Special Operations Forces.

Under the terms of the $33m defence systems technical area task (DS TAT) contract, the company will provide technical analysis and support for the forces’ survival support and equipment systems, survivability team.

The contract was awarded by the US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Command.

Battelle will provide development, testing and fielding of mission enhancement capabilities.

"We have the specialised testing facilities, innovative mindset and the agility favoured by the Special Operations Forces community."

It will also supply equipment for personal protection, medical monitoring, rescue and recovery, and vertical assault, as well as body armour, protective eyewear, helmet systems and communication headsets, and free-fall and airborne systems.

Battelle project manager Lee Charpentier said: "Our main goal is centred on improving and enhancing the performance of the operator whether it’s through integrated survivability components or integrated equipment systems."

In January, Battelle secured a position to bid for a $900m multiple-award contract.

The contract was to provide logistics and services support to the US Department of Defence’s (DoD) Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD).

Under the terms of the joint enterprise contracted logistics and services support (JE-CLaSS) contract, the company will provide support to seven project managers within JPEO-CBD.
