Battelle has announced that its resource effective bio-identification system (REBS) has been selected to protect warfighters and civilians from biological threats in the Republic of Korea.
The system is being deployed to the Republic of Korea as part of the US Department of Defense’s (DoD) Joint United States Forces Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition (JUPITR) programme.

The move follows REBS’s performance trials with live agents, which were carried out by the US government.
Battelle chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives (CBRNE) defence business general manager Matt Shaw said: "We’re proud that our system performed so well and has been selected to be part of the JUPITR programme that will help protect the war-fighter and civilians on the Korean Peninsula.
"We’ve made significant improvements to reduce the time it takes to identify hazardous bioaerosols and to dramatically bring down the full lifecycle costs."
Battelle said that its REBS is a Raman spectroscopy-based system that continuously scans for hazardous aerosols that may jeopardise the safety of military personnel and civilians.
