Saab has selected Telephonics Corporation to supply its SFF-44A identification friend or foe (IFF) interrogator system.

Under the contract, the SFF-44A will be integrated into Saab’s ground-based Giraffe agile multi-beam (AMB) radar platform.

The system will provide a clear surveillance picture, allowing the user to make quick tactical decisions while protecting against air threats.

Telephonics COO Kevin McSweeney said: "Telephonics SFF-44A is extremely well suited for the rugged environmental operations of the Giraffe AMB and will support the end user to effectively manage an ever-changing air surveillance picture.

Deliveries under the contract will begin early next year.

The SFF-44A is a lightweight, all-mode IFF interrogator that operates at a reduced transmitter power on air, ground and maritime platforms.

It complies with US Department of Defense and international specifications that define required interrogator modes, performance, control, reporting and interface.

The system offers a compact, modular design and anti-jam protection.

Telephonics will manufacture SFF-44A interrogators at its production facilities in Long Island, New York, US.
