Saab has secured an order from the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) to supply its Carl-Gustaf ammunition.

The SEK122m ($14.2m) order requires the company to deliver ammunition for the multi-purpose weapon system to the Swedish Army.

Saab Dynamics business area head Görgen Johansson said: “With this order, of both live and training ammunition, the Swedish Armed Forces continues its efforts to increase the capability of its army on the battlefield.

“The order is definitely a strong proof of the customer’s trust in the system and in Saab as a supplier.”

The latest version of the weapon, Carl-Gustaf M4, features a reduced weight of 7kg, while the previous models M2 and M3 weigh 14.2kg and 10kg, respectively.

Using the M4, soldiers will be able to deal with a wide range of tactical situations, ranging from neutralising armoured tanks or enemy troops in defilade, to clearing obstacles and engaging enemies in buildings.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 is around 1,000mm long and compatible with a variety of anti-armour, anti-structure, anti-personnel and support rounds.

The Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic were the first country to order the new Carl-Gustaf M4 last year.

In a separate development, Saab received a SEK130m ($15.29m) order from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann to supply new vehicle electronics for the Leopard 2 tank.

The order includes design and development of vehicle electronics, delivery of vehicle electronics units and cables, and training and documentation.

Krauss-Maffei supplies the Leopard 2 tank to FMV and the Swedish Army, where the tank is designated as Stridsvagn 122.
