General Dynamics Information Technology has received a $900m contract to support the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

The SOCOM wide mission support (SWMS) contract requires the company to provide a range of support services to assist Special Operations Forces (SOF) in carrying out global technical and management missions.

The company will provide engineering and technical services for major weapon systems, as well as support system requirements and assist with production decision-making and programme controls for a period of five years.

General Dynamics Information Technology Intelligence Solutions division senior vice-president Bernie Guerry said: “General Dynamics Information Technology will continue providing responsive, highly knowledgeable and professional support to meet the needs of the USSOCOM warfighter.”

Work under the contract will performed by ARMA Global, a subsidiary of General Dynamics Information Technology that supports the global missions of SOF.

The USSOCOM is responsible for developing special operations strategy, doctrine and tactics, as well as prepares and submits budget proposals for SOF.

It also trains soldiers, validates requirements, and enhances the interoperability of equipment and forces.

The SOF takes part in a wide range of activities, such as unconventional warfare, foreign internal defence, civil affairs, counter-terrorism and military information support operations.

The USSOCOM has approximately 57,000 active reserve and national guard soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
