As part of the augmented reality (AR) and Mixed Reality for Live Fire Ranges project, BANC3 will develop a see-through AR protocol and prototype that will create realistic simulated human avatar overlays on top of standard silhouette representations.

The prototype will also replicate night and obscurant conditions during live fire familiarisation training.

"BANC3 will focus on the development of AR technology that supports range scanning with one eye and weapon sighting with the other."

It will allow soldiers to shoot more rounds in a shorter amount of time, allowing more soldiers to be trained and improving retention and qualification rates, BANC3 stated.
