South Korea has test-fired a new Hyeomu-2 ballistic missile from the military field test site of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) under the wing of the Ministry of National Defense in Taean, South Chungcheong Province.
During the test firing, which was observed by South Korea President Moon Jae-in, the missile flew its intended range and hit a target with accuracy, Office of the President of South Korea stated.

South Korea has tested the missile four times to date, with plans to make it operational after two more test firings.
Speaking at a media briefing, Moon said in a statement that his visit to observe the test firing was to enable the public 'to realise that South Korea’s missile capabilities do not lag behind those of the North’s, thereby feeling reassured and proud'.
Moon added that 'the arms system developed by the ADD was not a tool of destruction or decimation but a means of dialogue and peace'.
He further noted, 'dialogue was only possible when it was backed by strong military power and an engagement policy was only feasible when we had national security strength that could overwhelm the North'.
