JAIS 6x6

The JAIS 6×6 mine-protected multi-purpose fighting vehicle manufactured by Nimr Automotiuve is designed to protect the occupants from mines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and ballistic threats. Formerly known as N35 mine-protected vehicle, the vehicle has been in service with the UAE Armed Forces.

Nimr Automotiuve showcased the vehicle at the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) held in February. NIMR expects to receive a contract from the UAE Armed Forces to supply 1,500 JAIS 4×4 and 6×6 infantry fighting vehicles.

The JAIS 6×6 armoured fighting vehicle offers superior survivability and tactical mobility in combination with high internal volume and payload capacity.

JAIS 6×6 design details

The modular design of the JAIS hull supports the development of multiple mission variants based on the same platform. The vehicle offers 60% more space and payload capacity than similar vehicles with conventional designs. It can be configured as an infantry fighting vehicle, armoured personnel carrier (APC), ambulance, command and control vehicle, as well as engineering and recovery vehicle.

The higher payload of the JAIS 6×6 enables the carriage of weapons, mission equipment and enhanced protection systems without affecting the mobility of the vehicle. The uncomplicated design further ensures ease of maintenance and servicing, while offering up to 90% commonality with the JAIS 4×4 variant.

The JAIS 6×6 has a length of 6.85m, width of 2.75m, height of 2.65m and a wheelbase of 3.1m. Its gross weight and payload capacity are 27t and 5.2t respectively. The vehicle can complement a crew of 11.

It can be optionally fitted with a ride height adjustment system, winterisation kit, fire suppression system, health, usage and monitoring system (HUMS), wide range of weapon systems, C4I command and control system, situational awareness system, self-recovery winch, electrical power management system, and driver aids.

Armament and self-protection

The JAIS 6×6 can be installed with a remotely controlled weapon station mounting a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun. The weapon station integrates electro-optical sights, which ensure precision engagement of targets.

"The JAIS 6×6 armoured fighting vehicle offers superior survivability and tactical mobility in combination with high internal volume and payload capacity."

The vehicle can be installed with ballistic and blast protection systems according to the mission requirements. The armoured hull is designed to protect the occupants from IED blasts and explosively formed projectile (EFP) threats.

The crew citadel protects the crew from a full range of threats, while the vehicle’s side profile is hinged with advanced armour for protection against anti-tank mines and ballistic threats. The vehicle is also installed with roof mounted mine-blast protected seats.

Engine and mobility of JAIS 6×6

The vehicle is powered by a 600hp Caterpillar diesel engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission generating a maximum torque of 1,900Nm. The engine is mounted on the left side of the hull. The modern power-train offers a higher power-to-weight ratio.

The JAIS 6×6 integrates independent suspension with hydro-pneumatic struts on each wheel. The wheels are integrated with air-actuated disc brakes. The vehicle is also equipped with central tyre inflation system (CTIS), run flat inserts (RFI) and recovery tools.

The vehicle has a maximum speed of 105km/h and a cruising range of 700km. It can ford a depth of 750mm without preparation and cross a trench of 1.1m and a vertical step of 600mm. It can negotiate a gradient of 60% and has a turning circle of 17m.

The JAIS vehicle can operate in temperatures ranging between -19°C and 55°C.
