South Korea will cut back its regular military exercises as part of a government campaign to save energy amid surging global oil prices, the Defense Ministry has announced.
The ministry plans to reduce its oil consumption by 14% this year by scaling back the number of exercises involving army tanks, navy ships and air force planes.
South Korea’s Defence Ministry also said it will offset the reduced training hours with computer-simulated drills.
South Korea has about 680,000 troops aimed at deterring possible aggression from North Korea.
