The Indian army is to sign a $1bn deal with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems for thousands of Spike anti-tank missiles and peripheral equipment.

The deal includes 321 launchers, 8,356 missiles and 15 training simulators, according to Defense News.

The Spike missile systems have met all specifications set by the Indian Army and will be partly assembled in Israel, with final assembly to be done by Bharat Dynamics in India.

The missiles will be installed on Russian-built combat vehicles.

The army issued a tender in June 2010 with Rafael being the only bidder.
