The US has supplied M1117 armoured security vehicles to the Syrian-Arab Coalition, which is attempting to liberate Raqqa, Syria, from terrorist group ISIS.
Also known as Guardian, the M1117 is a rugged 4×4 wheeled armour vehicle that has been designed to protect military police crew from small arms fire and mines.
The vehicle is also capable of providing quick insertion capability and manoeuvrability in urban areas.
US Colonel John Dorrian said: “As far as the vehicles, they're Guardian vehicles, so these are up-armoured Ford vehicles.
“They're trucks that have had a lot of armour added in order to increase their survivability and ability to withstand improvised explosive devices and small arms fire.”
Capable of aiming in all directions, the M1117 vehicle is equipped with a 40mm MK-19 grenade launcher and a 12.7mm machine gun.
The US-led coalition will continue to provide training, weapons and equipment in order to strengthen the Syrian-Arab Coalition fighters' abilities.
Since 1 January, the coalition conducted 19 strikes, including 36 engagements in or near Al-Bab to destroy ISIS fighters, equipment, artillery, fighting positions, tunnels and command and control nodes.
These strikes were carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Army.
