Oxley Group has secured a contract to supply high-performance LED lights with advanced protection against electromagnetic interference for installation on the UK Army’s Scout SV armoured fighting vehicles.
Awarded by General Dynamics European Land Systems, a sub-contractor on the programme, the £1m contract requires the company to supply ultra-compact low profile dual-mode interior lights and map ‘task’ lights for the vehicles.
The company will deliver thousands of lights, including Gooseneck task lights and the DC Combi LED interior light, which delivers white light plus an integrated blackout mode, and offers vital advantages within the confines of an armoured vehicle.
Oxley Group CEO Martin Blakstad said: "We are delighted to be working with General Dynamics on Scout SV, which is a key part of the strategic development of UK armoured vehicle capabilities."
The new Scout SV platforms are expected to carry a broad spectrum of high-specification electronic equipment, making it essential for the lights to feature advanced electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as it prevents interference with other mission critical equipment.
Developed to provide rugged and flexible task lighting designed to meet the toughest military standards, the Gooseneck map lights feature advanced LED technology to provide a light with greater tolerance for vibration and shock.
In addition, the lights are dimmable and night-vision friendly with dual-mode controls.
Oxley claims that the lighting system was an integral part of the vehicle acceptance, and the final UK Ministry of Defence order, which will see General Dynamics supply 589 vehicles in six variants from 2017 through 2024.
The variants include scout reconnaissance, equipment support repair, equipment and support recovery, command and control, protected mobility reconnaissance support, and engineer reconnaissance.
Designed to replace the UK Army’s existing combat reconnaissance (tracked) vehicle fleet, the Scout vehicles will enhance intelligence, surveillance, protection, target acquisition and reconnaissance capabilities, and provide a highly effective 40mm cannon to the army for future combat operations.
