France’s Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier is heading to its home port after suspected coronavirus (Covid-19) cases were found onboard. The nuclear-powered carrier was originally intended to return to Toulon on the 23rd of this month. The French Ministry of Armed Forces posted on Facebook that around 40 sailors were showing Covid-19 symptoms. The crew members have been placed under enhanced medical observation. Existing health measures onboard have been strengthened with a screening team and additional testing resources.

Saab’s Aerostructures unit has reduced working hours for 500 employees. Most staff will work 60% of their normal hours. The decision comes as the company’s Aerostructures unit continues to be hit by the effects of Covid-19. The pandemic has affected the unit’s supply chain and lowered demand. 120 people are also working reduced hours at the company’s technical consulting company Combitech.
Airmen at the US Altus Air Force Base (AFB) and volunteers have partnered to create face masks to help fight efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19. More than 45 airmen and dependents from the 97th Air Mobility Wing are volunteering for the work. They are using sewing machines to quickly make face masks using donated fabric, including materials such as cotton and old uniforms. The items are being distributed to all across the wing.
New Jersey National Guard personnel and airmen have volunteered to establish a new field medical station raised at Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. Around 25 people participated in the effort. This 250-bed field medical station is the first of three to open in the US state to support Covid-19 care. The remaining two stations will open in Central Jersey at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison, and at the Atlantic City Convention Center. The facilities will provide a total of 750 beds.
A C-17 Globemaster military transport plane has delivered 45 tonnes of medical supplies for the Romanian Government. The supplies arrived from Seoul and included 100,000 protective medical suits to help combat the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. The delivery is the third shipment from Korea to Romania. The aircraft is attached to the NATO-supported Strategic Airlift Capability and the flight charges were paid by the US. Meanwhile, the US-led KFOR Regional-Command East delivered personal protective equipment to the Municipalities of North and South Mitrovica.
