Rheinmetall has received a contract to supply Fuchs / Fox 2 NBC-RS nuclear, bacteriological and chemical (NBC) reconnaissance vehicles to Kuwait.
Under the contract, whose value remains undisclosed, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) will deliver twelve advanced armoured 2 NBC-RS vehicles, along with a comprehensive support package consisting of training, service, and spare parts.
RMMV managing director and Rheinmetall Defence executive board member Pietro Borgo said: "This important order is a major vote of confidence by an Arab country in Rheinmetall, Europe's leading supplier of army technology.
"By placing this order, Kuwait will soon possess NBC reconnaissance capabilities that are second to none. We are very pleased to be making a decisive contribution here."
Also known as Spürfuchs, the Fuchs / Fox 2 NBC-RS is a high-mobility 6x6 armoured transport vehicle featuring a comprehensive, fully integrated suite of devices for identification of NBC warfare agents and other hazardous materials.
The vehicles are capable of operating in extreme terrain, and the ones to be supplied to Kuwait are claimed to be the first to incorporate an additional biological detection capability.
Rhiemetall's Fuchs / Fox wheeled armoured transport vehicle has proven highly effective in crisis regionsworldwide.
Of the total 1,200 vehicles built, nearly 300 were configured for NBC reconnaissance operations, and are performing a vital role in the German and the US armies, as well as the armed forces of The Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the UK.
Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to commence in 2017.
The company has also signed a five-year technical support agreement contract for the vehicles, which starts as soon as the first Fuchs / Fox 2 NBC-RS enters service with the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
