Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has teamed up with Robonic, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense of Finland, to supply aerial target launchers to the US Army.

Kratos' Defense & Rocket Support Services (DRSS) Division's Madison Research Corporation (Kratos-MRC) and Robonic will deliver the launchers to support the army’s requirements.

Under the Kratos-MRC prime contract, two Robonic-built third-generation Kontio launchers will be supplied to the US Army PEO STRI Targets Management Office (TMO).

"We are pleased to support our TMO customer by providing exceptional products and services utilised in their global advanced target drone operations."

Kontio high-pressure pneumatic launchers will be used to launch firejet high-performance aerial targets supplied by Kratos-MRC sister company Composite Engineering.

Kratos DRSS president Dave Carter said: "We are pleased to support our TMO customer by providing exceptional products and services utilised in their global advanced target drone operations.”

Kontio launchers are designed to launch tactical unmanned air systems and target drones in a variety of environmental conditions.

The systems feature an adjustable launching pressure, which allows them to provide variable take-off speeds for air vehicles and missions.

The launcher's closed pneumatic system recovers pressure quickly by reducing the gap between individual air vehicle launches to minutes, Robonic said in a statement.

Its launch lock system extends the lifespan of unmanned air systems by reducing stress on the airframe, on-board electronics and optronics payloads.
