DataPath has received a contract to supply Wideband Global Satellite Communications (WGS) (Satcom) terminals with additional equipment and training to the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO).
Awarded by the US Air Force Life Cycle Management Centre, the $6.5m foreign military sales contract covers delivery of 30 DataPath CommuniCase Technology 1.2 M (CCT 120) portable satellite terminals to the Royal Danish Army and Air Force.
The contract will enable the Danish Defence Forces to upgrade and augment its Satcom capabilities with DataPath's current WGS certified CCT product line.
DataPath president and CEO David Myers said: "Denmark is just one example of the many countries around the world that have begun to reinvest in their tactical communications capabilities, especially those countries that are participating in the WGS programme.
"In order to prepare for the increasing demand, DataPath has made a significant effort to ensure our quality across all product lines.
"We recently began to in-source the manufacturing of our portable satellite terminals as well as standardise our quality management procedures.
"These changes in our operations will help us to support our clients around the world as they prepare to strengthen their Satcom capabilities."
The CCT terminals feature a flexible modular architecture that uses interchangeable modules, such as modems, transceivers, and controllers, which in turn enables individual terminals to offer multiple configurations.
The resulting modularity leads to a reduction in the number of terminals purchased and cost of parts, as well as future upgrades and enhancements.
With ease-of-use integral to the CCT's design, the operators will require little training to quickly get connected and communicate.
The CCT satellite terminals are also expected to help Denmark leverage its WGS bandwidth, offering additional throughput for their mobile forces, global coverage, and increased wideband capacity.
In addition, the WGS constellation offers an operational flexibility that is critical to the Danish military, including the ability to connect to allied terminals for interoperability when required by the mission.
Hardware deliveries under the contract are scheduled to be completed this year.
