Bangladesh is to acquire a single C295W tactical military transport aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space.

The C295W will become the first multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft to be operated by Bangladesh Army Aviation.

It will be used to transport troops and cargo, as well as for medical evacuations.

"The C295W will markedly increase the transport capability of Bangladesh Army Aviation."

Airbus Defence and Space marketing and sales head Jean-Pierre Talamoni said: "The C295W will markedly increase the transport capability of Bangladesh Army Aviation.

“We look forward to working with this new customer to secure a smooth entry into service and to supporting the aircraft for many years to come."

Delivery of the medium airlifter will take place in the second half of 2017.

The latest order covers customer support and training, and brings the number of C295 operators to 26.

The C295W is part of the Airbus Defence and Space's range of light and medium airlifters, which also includes the earlier C212 and smaller CN235 platforms.

It is equipped with winglets and can transport greater payloads over larger distances in hot conditions.

With increased engine power, the aircraft offers reduced fuel consumption and increased performance in all flight phases.

Bangladesh Army Aviation conducts military air operations and oversees doctrine, manning and configuration for all aviation units in the army.
