The Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel are set to take delivery of new generation soldier combat ensemble (SCE) sets from the Department of Defence's Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group's Land Systems Division.

Under the Land 125 Phase IIIB project, the division will supply 21,000 SCE sets to the Australian Army's combat brigades, support brigades, 2nd Division reinforcing battlegroups, Special Forces and selected Air Force and navy units.

Designed to optimise individual soldier protection and mobility, the SCE includes load carriage equipment, including harnesses, pouches and a range of packs, body armour, combat helmets, combat hearing protection, as well as ballistic / laser eye protection.

Diggerworks director colonel Mark Jennings said: "Since 2011 Project Land 125 Phase IIIB and Diggerworks have spearheaded the adaptive development of the SCE through a combination of soldier feedback, trials, and the review of Report On Defective or Unsatisfactory Materiels (RODUMs).

"Diggerworks will continue to liaise with the soldiers, units and formations issued the latest SCE to verify its form, fit, and function, and to identify future enhancements."

The SCE sets are supplied in three tiers, each designed to equip a combatant based on their primary task and likelihood of threat they will face, ensuring the optimal balance between protection and mobility.

The SCE roll-out to 1st Brigade began in May this year, while 3rd Brigade will receive their issue in 2016, followed by the 7th Brigade in 2017.

Forces Command's support brigades and 2nd Division reinforcing battlegroups will receive quantities of the SCE across the three-year rollout, which will be supported by training teams, training packages and the logistics system on an enduring basis.

Besides the SCE, the army units will also take delivery of new field packs, including dismounted field pack, mounted field pack, sniper pack, medium assault pack, as well as small assault pack.

The field packs are tailored to the requirements of the various tiers of soldier and a range of mission profiles.
