Coronavirus company news summary – US Army to distribute 1.6m flu vaccines – Philippines to store vaccines in military camps

By Harry Lye

4 November

The Philippines will use military camps to store a future Covid-19 coronavirus. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen a retired general to secure and distribute Covid-19 vaccines. The country is looking to procure vaccines in the first quarter of 2021, stated Carlito Galvez, the vaccine czar and chief of policies. The vaccines will be chosen based on cost, safety, and the number of shots required for efficacy.

The US Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA) is looking to distribute approximately 1.6 million doses of influenza vaccines to protect soldiers, their families, and retirees in the upcoming flu season. Either the USAMMA or the Department of Defence (DoD) supervises the distribution of vaccines to active duty, as well as reserve soldiers every year. It also extends support to their families and civilian staff.

The Defence Logistics Agency (DLA) has provided four months worth of personal protective equipment including surgical masks, gloves, and respirators to the DoD ahead of a second wave of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The supplies are from the DOD’s pandemic reserves and are meant for additional military services and combatant commands, including patient care at military facilities and deployed service members.
