The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has selected software company Palantir Technologies to continue work as its enterprise data management and (AI) -enabled mission command artificial intelligence platform.

The contract falls under the Mission Command System/Common Operational Picture (COP) programme.

It is valued at about $111m and includes a base year and one option year, with $52.5m executed upon award of the task order.

The software company’s platform has been used by USSOCOM in real-time mission operations.

Since 2016, Palantir’s platform has been used to interoperate with other components of the global situational awareness architecture.

The software is designed to collect disparate and siloed data sources to allow better data-driven decision-making.

This feature of the software allows the company to provide a platform that helps to improve ‘high impact decision-making’ across warfighting activities.

Palantir global defense lead Doug Philippone said: “When Special Operators are risking their lives in no fail scenarios, they deserve technology that works.

“Our partnership with USSOCOM was one of our first in the US military, and we are honoured to keep providing technology that gets the job done while we partner on the future of what is possible.”

The company’s technology enables real-time collaboration across USSOCOM and its allies.

It gives commanders a global scale situational awareness, bringing AI technology to the battlefield operations.

The technology also enhances the ability to respond to ‘near-peer threats’.

Palantir’s software is used from planning phase, to review coordination and approval stage, and runs through battle tracking of the execution of the actual mission.

Last November, the US Army chose Palantir Technologies to provide one of two prototype contracts for the Common Data Fabric and Data Security solution.
